What happens after you register

This is the part that catches people out. Registering is a form; staying registered is ongoing.

• £65/yr
  Per property, every year. Renew each year, or the entry lapses.
• 28 days
  To add the tenancy and safety details. If the property is let and you register without them, you have 28 days to add them. Miss that and the entry lapses.
• 28 days
  To update anything that changes. A new gas safety record, a rent change, a change of occupants: each gives you 28 days to update the register, on every property.
• Possession
  Keep your entries active. Once the rules are in force, a court can't make most possession orders while a property's register entry isn't active.

Penalties for not registering, or for getting it wrong, can be up to £7,000, or up to £40,000 for false information or a breach that continues or is repeated.
